In this daily Bible reading the Pharisees were criticizing Jesus and His disciples for not strictly following the Jewish laws and traditions. Jesus was not adhering to their religion. So, Jesus said, “New wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one, after drinking old wine wishes for new; for he says, ‘the old is good enough.’”

If one is entrenched in a particular religion, they are comfortable with that religion. They do not see a need to change. The Pharisees were firmly established in their religion based on the Laws that God gave to Moses.

They were not receptive to Jesus’ teaching.  They were certainly not receptive to believing that God had sent Jesus to the Earth to save mankind from their sins.  Additionally, they did not perceive that their own Bible, which we call the Old Testament, spoke of Jesus.

There are over 300 prophesies about Jesus in the Old Testament.  Even His rejection and death are prophesied.  However, the Pharisees could not link Jesus to these prophesies which were in their own Bible.  They were blind to the Truth.

The Bible says that a person must be reborn in Spirit to have Faith in Jesus Christ. One must totally break free of any religion that does not believe in Jesus. Then, they will be receptive to the Truth. As the Bible says, one must become a “fresh wineskin” to understand the Word of God and be refilled with the Truth.
