In this daily Bible reading Jesus tells the multitude, “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar, nor under a peck measure, but on a lampstand in order that those who enter may see the light.” Jesus will give believers tasks to do in their lives, tasks that will glorify God. These tasks will shed light in darkness. They are not intended to be hidden.

We must not be afraid or ashamed to ‘shine God’s light’ in the world, even if it means criticism from the world or even family members. A person cannot serve God effectively if they desire to be popular with the world. We must rather prepare ourselves to be rejected and criticized as we walk in obedience to the Word of God.

However, the Bible indicates that we should not be abrasive as we shine God’s light. Rather we should be salt and light. We should ‘season’ some situations with God’s Truths. We should also be ready to share the Word of God at appropriate moments and in small portions.
