In this daily Bible reading God tells Moses the good things that will happen in Israel if Israel follows and obeys God’s commandments and directions. Their crops and herds will prosper. They will become vastly superior in strength to their enemies. They will live peacefully and securely in their land.
God also tells Moses what will happen to Israel if Israel does not obey God. God will restrict the rain, and their crops will suffer. The land will become dry and barren. Israel’s enemies will become stronger than Israel. Wild and dangerous animals will increase in the land and will kill Israel’s children and livestock. Additionally, if Israel continues to be disobedient to God, God will drive them from the land. They will be scattered among the nations.
Israel in fact did turn from God, and God punished them as He said He would do. Israel ceased to be a nation, and the people were scattered among other nations. However, God did not totally abandon Israel. God said that He would restore Israel to the land one day.
In 1948, Israel once again became a sovereign nation. Jews from around the world are returning to Israel, and Israel is growing in population. They are again becoming strong and prosperous. One day soon, Jesus will return to be King of Israel and King of the world.
