In this daily Bible reading God instructs Moses regarding the festivals that Israel is to observe each year. In the first month of the Jewish calendar, Israel was to celebrate the Passover. This was to commemorate the Lord passing over Israel and killing the firstborn of each Egyptian. This event caused the Egyptian Pharaoh to let Israel leave Egypt.

In the seventh month of the Jewish calendar, Israel was to celebrate the Feast of Trumpets. This celebration was to be on the first of the month, and the 10th of the month was to be a day of atonement. Today this day is called Yom Kippur. It was to be a 24-hour period of complete rest and repentance for their sins.

Then on the 15th of the seventh month was to be the Feast of Booths. For seven days Israel would live in booths to remind them that Israel lived in booths during the Exodus trek from Egypt. These festivals served as a reminder of God’s favor and protection of Israel. Successive generations would not be aware of this unless they were taught and reminded.

So, it is today. As parents, we are responsible to teach our children about God and lead them to obey God’s rules. As parents, we must give our children a solid foundation and direction for their lives.
