In these passages the Pharisees were trying to arrest Jesus. However, they could not do so because the multitude of people who believed in Jesus. In fact, some of the officers sent to arrest Jesus became followers of Jesus after hearing Him.

The Pharisees then said, “The multitude which does not know the law is accursed.” In other words, the Pharisees believed that those who were not religious were accursed. I believe that it is just the opposite. Those who are religious have a more difficult time believing in Jesus.

Religion is man-made. Religion frequently distorts God’s Truth and keeps people from true belief in Jesus Christ. Religion puts people in bondage to the religion. However, belief in Jesus sets one free. A  believer is unshackled from both sin and from religion.
