In these passages, Jesus prays to God the Father on behalf of His disciples. In His prayer, Jesus defines Eternal Life: “And this is Eternal Life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.”
Eternal life, as Jesus defined it, is contingent on knowing God and Jesus. It is contingent on an active belief in Jesus, who is the living Word of God. True believers believe the Word of God is Truth. They believe the Bible is the Truth.
There is no other way to know Jesus than to read the Bible. I believe that Bible reading and study is a ‘litmus test’ for true belief in Jesus Christ. We cannot find the path that leads to Salvation without the Bible. Nor can we find the door that enters Heaven without the Bible.
