In these passages, Jesus tells His disciples, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” That is evidence of our love for Jesus. It is also evidence of our love for God. There is no other verification of our love for God than our obedience to the Word of God.
Jesus promised that if we live our lives in obedience to the Word of God, then God and Jesus will be with us. God’s Holy Spirit will also indwell us and teach us the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher to have.
Religion does not fill this bill or meet this need. In fact, religion detracts from the Word of God with rituals and requirements. That is why I rely on God’s Holy Spirit rather than religion to teach me and give me understanding of God’s Word. I praise God for that.
