In these passages is the account of John the Baptist seeing and recognizing Jesus as the Son of God. Also contained in these passages is the account of Jesus selecting His first disciples: Andrew, Peter, Philip, and Nathaniel.

These men’s hearts were prepared to believe in Jesus. When Nathaniel met Jesus he said, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” We too must be prepared to believe in Jesus.

The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.”  God prepares our hearts for Jesus by first motivating us to be obedient to God. The Bible says that ‘nobody can come to Jesus unless God draws him or her.’ God prepares us and stirs our hearts to believe in Jesus.

The Bible also says that ‘God grants us repentance.’ It is essential for us to repent of our sins to be covered by Jesus’ atoning death on the cross. We are not even able to repent and turn away from sins until God enables us to do so. We are in bondage to sin until Jesus frees us.
