In this daily Bible reading Jeremiah continues to prophesy about Babylon’s coming destruction. God’s chosen instrument for Babylon’s destruction would be the Medes and the Persians. God used Babylon to punish Israel for Israel’s sins against God. Now God was going to use the Persians to punish Babylon for their destruction of Israel and arrogance toward God.
One might wonder why God would punish any nation for doing His will. God certainly has His reasons. The Bible says that God’s ways are above our ways. I believe that Babylon was certainly not pure. They were arrogant and sinful before God used them as His instrument. God simply directed their might where it would accomplish His purpose. Then God punished Babylon for their sins.
God still orchestrates worldly events. At this writing America and the world is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. This pandemic was very effective in severely damaging America’s economy. It happened very quickly. I believe that God used China to develop this virus and let it be released into the world, with America as its prime target.
Just as God used Babylon to destroy Israel, I believe that God is using China to economically destroy America for America’s sins and for turning away from God. Even if America’s economy recovers, I believe that China will continue in their goal to harm America’s economy. After they succeed, God’s judgement may turn toward them.
