In these final passages of the book of Isaiah, Isaiah continues to prophesy God’s coming judgment and destruction of the Earth because of the proud and arrogant population that has turned away from Him. However,  God will preserve a few. God said through Isaiah, “But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit and who trembles at My Word.”

The Bible says that God hates pride more than anything else. A prideful person cannot and will not draw close to God. The Bible says that God honors humility in a person. He doesn’t favor a person who elevates himself or herself in their own estimation. A humble person realizes that God created everything. A humble person realizes that good fortune comes from God and is not due to what the person has done. A humble person fears God, knowing God’s power and that God will punish wrongdoing. An arrogant or prideful person does not have such fear of God. God allows them to follow their own path, a path that leads to eternal destruction.

The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” It is the necessary first step toward Salvation. A prideful person cannot and will not take that crucial first step, but a humble person will. Therefore we must give up or reject pride in our lives and give all credit to God. We must put ourselves second and not first. God must be preeminent in all things in our lives and get all the credit for our good fortune.
