In this daily Bible reading Hosea prophesies the destruction of Israel for turning from God and worshiping idols. Hosea also prophesies the return of Israel and God’s favor returning to them after they have been punished.
If we study the history of Israel, God’s punishment and judgment can clearly be seen. Jerusalem has been destroyed by both Babylon and Rome. The northern part of Israel was destroyed by Assyria. The people of Israel have been scattered throughout the world, and the Jews have been persecuted and hated wherever they have settled. In World War II, Hitler murdered 6 million Jews, and the Jewish population is still attacked today. However, God will restore Israel, as He promised.
In 1948 Israel once again became a sovereign country. It was small at first and was attacked by the surrounding Arab nations. However, it has grown with each succeeding war as God has helped them win each war. The original boundaries of the land that God gave Israel when they came out of Egypt are clearly being restored.
Today, Israel is on the verge of annexing the territories of Judea and Samaria. Jews are returning to Israel from countries around the world as God draws them home. The Bible says that Jesus will return soon and be their King. I strongly believe this will happen in my lifetime.
