In this daily Bible reading is the account of Joseph being brought before Pharaoh to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. The cupbearer of Pharaoh was in prison with Joseph and had a dream which Joseph correctly interpreted. Pharaoh’s cupbearer was restored to his position before Pharaoh. He told Pharaoh of Joseph’s interpretive powers when the Pharaoh was seeking someone to interpret his dreams. Joseph was brought before Pharaoh and Pharaoh told his dreams to Joseph.

Joseph told Pharaoh that God was indicating what He would do to Egypt. Egypt would have seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine. Joseph suggested to Pharaoh that Pharaoh find a wise and discerning man to manage the seven years of plenty and store up grain for the seven years of famine. Pharaoh chose Joseph to be that man. At the age of 30, Joseph was put in charge of Egypt, he was second only to Pharaoh. Joseph was given a wife who bore him two sons: Ephraim and Manasseh.

Joseph did rule Egypt and set up a system to store 20% of all the grain harvested. After seven years of plenty came the seven years of famine. The famine affected not only Egypt but all the surrounding countries, including the land of Canaan where Joseph’s family lived. Joseph saved Egypt. He also saved the surrounding countries.

In many ways, Joseph was a picture of Jesus who will again come into the world. Jesus will save the world. The world will prosper under Jesus’ leadership during His Millennial Kingdom.
