In this daily Bible reading is the account of Sarah giving birth to Isaac when Sarah was 90 years old. Abraham was 100 years old. After Isaac was born, Sarah sent her maid Haggar and Haggar’s son Ishmael away, so that Ishmael would not share Isaac’s inheritance.
When Isaac was a young boy, God tested Abraham’s Faith in God. God told Abraham to take Isaac to a specific location and sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering to God. Abraham obeyed God. However, just before Abraham killed Isaac, ‘the angel of the Lord’ called to Abraham telling Abraham to stop. Abraham had passed God’s test of Faith by being willing to sacrifice Isaac, Abraham’s and Sarah’s only son.
God then told Abraham that because Abraham demonstrated great Faith in God, God would greatly bless Abraham. God said to Abraham: “In your seed, all nations of the Earth shall be blessed.” If one looks at the world today, there are nations that have definitely prospered. The British Empire and America are two good examples. There is strong evidence that these nations are related to Abraham and his descendants.
