In this daily Bible reading God continues to instruct Moses regarding the sanctification of Aaron and his sons to be priests. They were to be properly attired and cleansed. They were to be anointed with special oil prepared to God’s specifications.
Sanctification was a process to prepare people to serve God. Regarding Aaron and Aaron’s sons, it seemed to be largely external. However, the Bible says that God wants our hearts to be sanctified to serve Him. We cannot serve God effectively unless we are changed from within.
The Bible says that we must be reborn spiritually. We need to die to our sinful behavior and be renewed in Jesus Christ. We must repent or be sorry for our sins, and we must truly desire not to sin anymore. As humans we will still be tempted to sin, but we will be given the motivation and ability to resist temptation.
Before we are renewed in Jesus Christ, we are unable to resist temptation. We are in bondage to the sins we commit. However, in Jesus Christ we are set free of this bondage. We then are sanctified or prepared to serve God according to His purpose for each of us.
