In this daily Bible reading Paul tells the Ephesian Church, ”For by grace you have been saved through Faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God grants us Salvation through our continued Faith in Jesus Christ. It is not a one-time profession. Rather, it is a true Faith that continues for the rest of our lives and beyond. This Faith is evidenced by our good works that God has prepared for us.
It is God’s grace that has provided the only way to Salvation, which is through belief in Jesus Christ. What is grace? I once heard a very good description of justice, mercy and grace. Justice is getting what I deserve. Mercy is not getting what I deserve. Grace is getting what I don’t deserve. I am a sinner, and I certainly don’t deserve to go to Heaven. However, God is giving me what I don’t deserve: The pathway to Heaven, which is exclusively through Jesus Christ. I must believe in Jesus and place my Faith and trust in Him.
The Bible says that Jesus is the Word of God. The Bible is the Word of God. Therefore my Faith in Jesus is evidenced by reading the Bible and striving to live my life according to the Bible’s guidance. Apart from the Bible one cannot know Jesus and one cannot know how to live. Therefore, I believe that the Bible is essential to our Salvation journey and being allowed into Heaven.
