In this daily Bible reading is the death of Moses and commissioning of Joshua to take Moses’ place.  Joshua would lead the conquest of the promised land, starting with Jericho. The people pledged their support for Joshua saying to Joshua, “May the Lord your God be with you as He was with Moses.”

Interestingly, the people did not consider God to be their God; but they acknowledged His presence and power. It seemed that God had personal relationships with Israel’s leaders and Prophets, but not with the people. The people had to approach God through intermediaries: The Levites, the Prophets, and the leadership of the nation.

Today we have access to God through Jesus Christ. Jesus is our intercessor. However, we can consider God to be our God when we believe in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Praise God!
