In this daily Bible reading is the account of the Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar, having another dream that troubled him. This dream indicated that God would inflict Nebuchadnezzar with memory loss. He would dwell in the wilderness eating grass like an animal for a period of time until he realized that God had given Nebuchadnezzar the power and glory that he held as King of Babylon.
Daniel had interpreted the dream, telling Nebuchadnezzar what was to happen. When it did happen and Nebuchadnezzar’s mind was restored, he praised God and acknowledged that God had given him all that he had. Previously, Nebuchadnezzar was very prideful and believed that his power and glory were due to his own accomplishments.
The Bible says that God hates pride. In fact, pride is on top of the list of the things that God hates. On the other hand, God favors those who are humble before him. I believe our natural sinful condition leads us to be prideful. We tend to brag about who we are and what we have accomplished. However, we must be ever mindful that all things in our lives are from God, good and bad. God is guiding us and changing us to be the people that He wants us to become. We should thank God daily for our many blessings and pray for His continued guidance and mercy.
