In these passages, Stephen continues to recount to the Jewish Council their history. He reminded them how God selected Moses to lead Israel out of Egyptian bondage. Stephen pointed out to the Council that Israel was rebellious to God during the Exodus and worshipped demons. They took idols with them to worship.
Stephen also said that God told Moses that God would raise up for Israel a Prophet like Moses from Moses’ brethren. This Prophet was Jesus.
It appears that the Jewish leadership did not know their Scriptures very well. More likely they did not ‘connect the dots’ and realize that Jesus was the fulfillment of prophecy.
That is even true today in the Jewish community. They still believe that the Messiah has not yet come to the earth. However, the Bible says that very soon the Jews will come to believe that Jesus is indeed the Messiah. This is starting to happen among the younger people in Israel today.
