In this daily Bible reading is the account of Paul convincing the Roman commander to let him speak to the Jewish crowd that had tried to kill Paul. Paul spoke to the commander in the Greek language but spoke to the Jewish crowd in the Hebrew dialect.

Paul was a very educated person who spoke multiple languages. He was also well educated in the Scriptures and knew them extremely well. I believe Paul was God’s chosen an instrument to preach about Jesus because he was so well educated. This tells me that God uses various people for his purposes according to how they have prepared.

It doesn’t seem that God instantly fills people with knowledge to conduct a task. Rather their preparation takes time. It also takes time for a person to become useful to God.

Some of God’s most effective servants had lived a long time before God called them. For example, Moses was 80 years old when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt. Abraham was 75 years old when God called him.

I believe each of us is guided down a path that God has chosen for us. Our response should be to diligently follow that path while obeying the Word of God. And we must wait patiently for God’s guidance to do His bidding. The Bible says that ‘whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.’ The Bible also tells us to ‘wait on the Lord.’
