The writer of this Psalm is in great distress. He is miserable, and his life is wasting away. He calls out to the Lord to help him and restore him to good health. He also pleads to God to restore Israel to God’s favor.
The writer knows that God will indeed one day restore and bless Israel. He speaks of the future generations that God will bless and preserve to serve God. He writes, “This will be written for the generations to come that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.” He also writes, “The children of Thy servants will be established before Thee.”
God has judged and chastised Israel severely for turning from Him to serve other gods. However, God has not abandoned Israel. He is preserving a remnant of Israel that will one day serve Him.
Israel’s prosperity and favor will be restored through Jesus Christ. Jesus will one day lead Israel. He will reside in Jerusalem. He will teach Israel’s descendants God’s Truths. They will never again turn away from God. They will indeed be God’s people. All who believe in Jesus Christ will be God’s people.
