These passages continue to speak of God keeping His promise to Abraham. God promised Abraham a multitude of descendants. He also promised to give Abraham’s descendants their own country in which to live.
So, God grew Israel into over 1 million people in Egypt. Then, God brought them out of Egypt to the land of Canaan. God brought them to the land that Israel occupies today.
When God led Israel to His promised land, He drove out the occupants of the land. Then, Israel settled in cities that were already established. They occupied houses that were already built. Additionally, they acquired land that was already producing crops. They had vineyards, wheatfields, vegetable gardens, food producing land that provided for their needs. They also acquired herds of animals for food and labor.
Indeed, God fulfilled his promises to Abraham. God also promised to continually bless his chosen people Israel if they would continue to serve the Lord. God’s blessings were conditional on Israel’s obedience. God’s blessings are still conditional on our obedience to Him.
