In this daily Bible reading Peter writes to the Jews who God scattered to other countries. Peter is specifically speaking to those who have been chosen by God for Salvation. The Bible says that God has identified those who will be allowed into His Kingdom and calls these people the elect. The Bible also says that God identified these people before they were born. Interestingly, nobody except God knows who these people are. The Bible verifies this with this passage: “All of creation is waiting for the revealing of the sons of God.”
Many in the Christian community think that they are going to Heaven. They are taught that their Salvation is assured. However, the Bible does not teach this. The Bible teaches that we must be hopeful that we will be allowed into Heaven. We cannot know if we are God’s elect, but we can have a healthy hope that we are.
The Bible indicates some of the characteristics of God’s elect. First, these people live by Faith. They trust in God and look for His guidance. They repent of sin in their life and resist temptations to sin. These people delight in the Word of God, the Bible. They believe it to be true, and they read it frequently. The Bible sustains them and guides them. The Bible also indicates that God’s elect love God more than worldly possessions. Their hearts are set on God rather than money. God’s elect are also very generous.
The Bible tells us to test ourselves to see if we are in the Faith. We should do that to determine if we are on the right path and may be of God’s elect.
