In this daily Bible reading Paul tells the Ephesian Church of the spiritual forces that are unseen but are real. There are spiritual forces and beings that will attempt to deter us from walking rightly before God and keep us from Heaven. We must be aware of these forces and fight against them.
Just as a soldier puts on his armor, we must put on spiritual armor in order to survive this spiritual battle. Implements of this armor include the ‘belt of truth, the ‘breastplate of righteousness’, ‘readiness to share the gospel message,’ ‘the shield of faith,’ ‘the helmet of salvation,’ and ‘the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God.’ With these spiritual implements in place we will be able to stand against evil and survive spiritually. The Word of God, the Bible is he essential in all of the implements and is specifically mentioned in two of them: ‘the belt of truth and the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God.’
Without the Bible we cannot know the Gospel message. We cannot know God’s Salvation plan for us. We cannot know about the importance of Faith or in whom we should have Faith. Therefore, we cannot know how to live rightly before God.
Indeed, the Bible is essential if we want to have any chance to stand against evil. The Bible enables us to successfully fight against the spiritual forces that are trying to keep us from God. Awareness is half the battle, but we must also know how to defend ourselves. Only the Bible will give us the proper guidance.
