In these passages is the account of Jehoram replacing King Jehoshaphat, his father, as King of Judah. Jehoram was a bad king who turned away from God.
He was likely influenced by his wife Athaliah, the daughter of Jezebel.
Jezebel worshipped demons and was the wife of Ahab, King of Israel.
Jehoram led Israel astray and re-established demonic places of worship.
As a result, God punished Jehoram for his unfaithfulness toward God. Jehoram only reigned eight years and died a very painful death.
This account confirms that God does punish those who commit sins: those who disobey God.
This happens today.
If one looks around and is observant one can perceive many afflictions in the world. People are afflicted with diseases and injuries, even death.
The drug industry is flourishing, largely because of the massive numbers of ailments in the world.
I have personally experienced physical ailments in my life that can be directly attributed to my sins. Conversely, I have personally experienced good health and strength resulting from my obedience to God, even in my old age.
The Bible says that ‘those who wait on the Lord will regain their strength. They will run and not grow tired; they will walk and not grow weary.’
This is literally true, as I can attest.
