In this daily Bible reading is the account of God appearing to King Solomon the night after Solomon had made many offerings to God. God said to Solomon, “Ask what I shall give you.” Solomon responded,  “Give me  wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this great people; for who can rule this great people of Thine?”

God was pleased with Solomon’s request because Solomon did not ask for things that would make him rich or great. Rather, Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge to do a good job ruling Israel. Because Solomon requested this, God was pleased. God said He would grant Solomon’s request. God said He would also give Solomon riches and honor.

The Bible says, “Seek first the Lord and His righteousness and the rest will be given you as well.” This incident is proof of what the Bible says. When we seek to please and to serve God, God will bless our lives.

Our primary focus should therefore be on living rightly before God rather than seeking to become rich or famous. We should not seek to  amass treasures on Earth. We should rather seek to amass treasures in the Kingdom of God.  If we do that, God will bless us both here on Earth and in Heaven.
