In this daily Bible reading is the account of God appearing to Solomon in a dream after Solomon had offered a thousand burnt offerings to the Lord at Gibeon. God asked Solomon what Solomon wished from God. Solomon asked God to give him “an understanding heart to judge the people, to discern between good and evil.” God was pleased with Solomon’s request and gave Solomon ‘a wise and discerning heart.’ God also gave Solomon great riches and honor.
The Bible says, “Seek first the Lord and his righteousness and the rest will be given you as well.” When we prioritize doing what is right before God, He will bless us with many other things. These include good health, financial security, a good family. In short, we will have a rich and abundant life.
More importantly, God will give us the fruits of the Holy Spirit: ‘Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.’ Our lives will be rich and full without anxiety and worry, knowing that God is in control of everything. This is how I want to live, so I will strive always to obey God.
