In this daily Bible reading the Apostle John speaks to those who truly believe in and follow Jesus. He says that true believers know that they are sinners and need Jesus to be their Savior.
John also says, “ If we say we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the Truth.” As believers, we cannot continue to walk in darkness or continue to willfully sin. We must rather reject sin. We must confess our sins to Jesus, and He will forgive us. However, we must first recognize sin to be sin in our lives. Otherwise, we cannot repent or turn from sin.
Jesus said that he came to save sinners. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Jesus, therefore, meant that He came to save those who acknowledge their sins to Him – those who know they are sinners and want to turn from sin.
Jesus’ shed blood, which atoned for the sins of mankind, only atoned for the sins of those who acknowledged and repented of their sins. Therefore, we must repent of the sins of which we are aware.
We must also ask Jesus to reveal those sins in our lives of which we are unaware. If we pray to Him in this matter, Jesus will indeed show us our sins. Then, we can repent and be saved from eternal damnation and destruction.
