In this daily Bible reading is the account of King David assembling all the officials of Israel to witness David giving plans for God’s Temple to his son, Solomon. He also gave Solomon all the materials for the project. God had given David the Temple plans and specific instructions to the Levites for doing the Temple service. David instructed Solomon to know God and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind.

The Bible says, “The Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent of their thoughts. If you seek Him he will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.” It is incredible to me that God searches our hearts and understands every intent of our thoughts. We cannot hide evil or bad thoughts from God. He created us and knows what we are thinking, good or bad. He will weigh our actions. More importantly, He will weigh our motives.

An outward action may not be sinful, but the motivation behind it might be. Therefore we must examine our own motives carefully and test them against what the Bible commands of us. If our motives are contrary to what the Bible commands of us, then the action that our motivation produces is a sin.
